Walk The Labyrinth

14th to 20th August  2017

One long standing Christian way of slowing down is to walk a Labyrinth; not a maze with dead ends, but a winding path that leads to the centre and then back out again. To walk a labyrinth is to do a short spiritual pilgrimage, to contemplate one's life journey and to discover that every step of the way God is walking with us. We hope to discover our own true centre and sense of purpose.

We enjoyed hosting the prayer labyrinth in August. Many local people came and several who were just travelling through Tetbury too. It was a prayerful peaceful but also challenging spiritual exercise, walking the path of the labyrinth in the church carrying a stone and thinking what stones or burdens we wanted to lay down at God’s feet. Then when walking back out of the labyrinth we picked up a pretty coloured glass bead and considered what blessing from God the bead could represent for us.

I find it amazing the shafts of new light that shine through when we reach out to the Source of Life, the Ground of Our Being, the Creator of Love, whatever word we want to use for God who creates and shapes our lives.

"The Lord is my pacesetter..... I shall not rush

He makes me stop for quiet intervals.

He provides me with images of stillness which restore my serenity

He leads me in the way of efficiency trough calmness of mind and his guidance is peace.

Even though I have a great many things to accomplish each day, I will not fret, for his presence is here....

Truly harmony and effectiveness shall be the fruits of my hours, for I shall walk at the Pace of my Lord and dwell in his house for ever."

(a version of Psalm 23)
